Como llegar al Cortijo

Although Cortijo Prado Toro is in the middle of the mountains it is not difficult to get here.It is possible by public transport but the best option is to hire a car at the airport. We would appreciate if you could give us a ring from Malaga airport so that we have an approximate idea of when to expect you.
Coming from Málaga airport, there are two possibilities:
1) The quickest way is to follow the Málaga - Granada motorway, continue on the motorway in the direction Motril, and take the exit to La Alpujarra:
Málaga – Granada: From Málaga airport, take the motorway A331 direction Antequera/ Granada. About 11 km before Granada (after the exit to the airport), take the exit to Santa Fe, and keep driving on the A329 in direction Granada. Just after you see a sign which says that you are in Granada you will come to the a big roundabout which leads onto the circunvalación (ringroad), turn right at the roundabout and take the Motril direction. You don’t have to drive into Granada, just keep following the "circunvalación" (ring road) in the direction of Motril.

Granada – Órgiva (the main market town in La Alpujarra): About 35km after taking the road south from Granada, start watching out for a big sign post "Beznar – Lanjarón". The exit from the motorway is just behind that signpost. Keep going in direction "Lanjáron – La Alpujarra" . You are now on the old road from Granada to the coast, driving through a deep gorge. After about 1 km, don’t miss the road to Lanjarón going off to the left (opposite "Club Nevada")!!! Now follow this road and you will automatically come through Lanjarón and get your first impression of a typical white village. If you fancy a drink, we recommend you to stop at one of the roadside bars behind Lanjarón, rather than trying to stop in the village where it’s quite hard to park. Follow the road until you come to Órgiva. You will see a petrol station on the left ("E.S. Alpujarra") and just behind it, the road up to Bubión/ Pampaneira/ Trevélez.

Órgiva – Pitres:Now it’s another 17km following this road through spectacular mountainous landscape with the mountain range La Contaviesa just opposite. The best way to drive to the Cortijo is to take the GR421 from Orgiva towards Pampaneira and Pitres. Shortly after leaving Pampaneira on your left, take the left turn, signposted Bubión and Capileira, opposite a prominent filling station.
Drive the 4km to Capileira and drive on through the village keeping to the right. Leave the village on a tarmac road for about 3km, until you reach a right turn onto a dirt road. There is an abandoned old building on the left and a stone sign pointing to Cortijo Prado Toro. Take this road and follow the signs to the Cortijo.
The position of the Cortijo is approximately 36056'15'N 3020'15'E at an altitude of around 1,400m (4,600ft).
b) The second possibility is to drive along the coast, but this can get quite slow, especially at weekends. However, you might fancy seeing a bit of the sea and maybe stopping for a meal on the beach.
Málaga – Motril: Right after Málaga airport, drive direction Málaga (N340). After about 1km, turn off to the right into "Ronda de Málaga Motril". Keep in direction Motril/ Almuñecar/ Almería until you have to leave the motorway. Stay on the N340, driving along the coast through Nerja, Almuñecar and then Salobreña. After Salobreña, you will see a sign post "Granada": leave the coastal road and drive north on the N323 direction Granada.
Motril – Órgiva:
You can either reach Órgiva from the south or from Lanjarón (as explained above in Granada - Órgiva).
The southern road is quicker, but we don’t advise you to take it if it’s already getting dark: there is hardly any lighting on the bendy roads and no sign posts. During the day, it’s easier: once you’re on the N323 to Granada, watch out for a first, small sign post saying "Vélez de Benaudalla", but DON’T take that exit, it just leads you into a village. After a short while, you will see a big sign post saying "Vélez de Benaudalla– La Alpujarra". Here, turn right, crossing a big bridge, then turn left and continue on that road ("straight on") until, after a tunnel, you will see a sign post "Órgiva". Turn left (cross another bridge), continue until Órgiva, drive through the market town (following the main road), over the bridge and after about 100m, to the right up towards Bubión/ Pampaneira/ Trevélez (as above).
From Almeria airport
2) Coming from Almería airport
To get to Órgiva, you have two possibilities:
a) Almería – Motril: Take the Autovía del Mediterraneo direction El Ejido/ Adra/ Motril. After Adra, the motorway stops and joins the coastal road (N340). After Motril, take the exit to Granada. This is explained above in Motril – Órgiva.
b) Almería – Órgiva (trip through La Contraviesa): This way takes longer than on the coastal road, but it‘s much prettier. You will drive through the mountain range La Contraviesa and have a superb view of La Alpujarra opposite. If it’s getting dark, the coastal road to Motril is a better choice.
Take the Autovía del Mediterraneo direction El Ejido. Take the exit to Berja and keep driving, through Ugíjar and Torvizcón, to Órgiva. Drive through Órgiva (following the main road), cross a bridge and after 100m, turn right.
Órgiva – Bubión: as explained above
From Granada airport
